For 2015, the twelfth annual Road King Rendezvous will be held in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina for another awesome week of friendship and gorgeous mountain riding!

Ride the asphalt ribbon of the "Tail of the Dragon" and scenic Cherohala Skyway. Snake your way up the beautiful Tellico River to Bald River Falls. Pay a visit to the Whitewater Mecca of the Nantahala Gorge. Rumble the scenic mountain towns of Franklin, Highlands, and Cashiers, and see the breathtaking views and stone tunnels of the Blue Ridge Parkway. For those that need a break from riding, you can spend a day in nearby Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Dollywood, stroll the two mile nature trail of the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest  in nearby Santeetlah, visit the "Wheels Through Time" Museum in Maggie Valley, or take a tour of the Biltmore Estate near Asheville.

For those that wish, we will have group rides planned for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, or feel free to take time to do your own exploring or enjoy any number of other activities in the area.

Reservation information is listed below, and we hope to see all of you there for as long as you can stay. This will be a full week, with check in at Best Western Murphy on Monday the 8th, and check out on Saturday the 13th of June. Come sooner or stay longer if you like and we'll do some impromptu Dragon Slaying!! :-)

Daily Schedules

Due to the slower pace of the scenic routes in this area, and lack of open highways, we have purposely kept the overall daily distance close to 200 miles. These will be long, full days in the saddle, on beautiful mountain roads with speeds averaging only around 45mph, but at these speeds many of these roads can be quite challenging!.

We will try to be at our lunch stops between 1:00 and 1:30 p.m. each day. Keeping our group off of the normal 12 to1:00 lunch hour will help the restaurants handle our numbers better.

We expect to be back at home base by 6 p.m. each evening.

Rain Notice!! Expect rain!! Its what makes the "Smoke" in the Smoky Mountains. Good wet weather gear is highly recommended. Although we will not leave in the rain, getting caught by it, or negotiating wet roads is commonplace here. If our rides are delayed by rain, we have some short, after lunch loops planned.

Road Conditions / Skills Required

For most of our rides each day, we will be traveling on two lane curvy mountain roads, with lots of elevation changes. Some grades are 7% to 9% grades, with tight curves at the top or bottom, and we will be running at or slightly above posted "suggested" speed limits. Blind curves may be littered with sand or loose gravel, and as this is a major tourist area, inattentive, sightseeing traffic is a constant hazard!. All riders should possess appropriate skills for riding these type of roads. Riders should space themselves out to allow plenty of apexing and gravel dodging room for the rider ahead. Single file riding will be the order of the day for all riding, except the few open highways. These routes are not difficult at our intended speeds, but good bike control and confidence in the curves will help ensure that everyone has a great day and a fantastic trip.
