Legacy of Contributions to the Technology Industry
VIENNA, VA, September 4, 2007 – Brian Lyons, co-founder, CEO and CTO of
Number Six Software, died on September 3, 2007 at approximately 6:30 p.m. as
a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Route 32, near
Ft. Meade, Maryland.
Lyons, 42, worked in the software industry for over twenty years and is a
widely recognized authority in many technologies, including the Rational
Unified Process, Eclipse Process Framework, Service Oriented Architecture
and Agile. He is also co-author of UML 2 Tookit, and a host of other
published papers and articles. His recent passion was blogging, and over the
past few weeks he posted many to the Number Six blog on a variety of issues.

While spending much of his career as trainer, product-centered consultant,
methodologist and object-oriented mentor, Lyons continuously stayed close to
the pragmatic issues of the software developer. His enthusiasm and his
contributions to the development of cutting edge technologies earned him
respect among his peers and his clients, and his unique style and spirit of
delivery will be widely remembered and missed at industry events across the
nation where he was frequently a presenter or speaker.
Prior to co-founding Number Six in 1994, Lyons was a software specialist
with Rational Software, and a software developer with GTE. Lyons earned his
B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, and conducted
postgraduate work in software engineering at the Johns Hopkins University
Whiting School of Engineering. Lyons is survived by his wife, Tamara, and
his son, Asher Francis; his mother and father, Moira and Robert Lyons;
brothers, Robert, John, Terrence and Paul; sister, Maureen; and seven nieces
and nephews.

Departed on Sep. 3, 2007 and resided in Darnestown, MD.
On Monday, September 3, 2007 of Darnestown, MD. Loving husband of Tamara
Hadji Lyons. Devoted father of Asher Francis Lyons. Son of Robert and Moira
Lyons. Brother of Robert, Jr.; John; Maureen; Terrence; and Paul. Also
survived by seven nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at PUMPHREY’S BETHESDA-CHEVY CHASE FUNERAL HOME,
7557 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, MD on Friday, September 7, 2007 from 3-5 and
7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Jane Frances de
Chantal Catholic Church, 9601 Old Georgetown Rd., Bethesda, MD on Saturday,
September 8, 2007 at 10 AM. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Brian Lyons Scholarship
Fund at the University of Maryland; Checks should be made out to the
University of Maryland College Park Foundation and the memo portion should
